I read 2 Kings 23 today.
One thing that stood out to me in the book of Kings is that it repeatedly shows whether each king of Judah and Israel followed the Lord or walked in the ways of Jeroboam. The people, in turn, followed the example of their king and lived according to the path he chose.
As I reflected on this passage, I was reminded that my life is shaped by whatever rules my heart. What has authority over me is ultimately what I worship. That could be something addictive that takes control of my life, or it could be Jesus and His Word.
As the story progresses, the kings of Judah and Israel continue to choose sin over and over again. By the time their kingdoms are about to fall, their kings are no longer chosen from the line of their faithful predecessors. Instead, outside powers determine who will rule them.
That made me realize that when I repeatedly choose sin, I eventually lose even the freedom to choose who or what will rule over me. Sin doesn’t just influence me—it gradually takes away my ability to surrender myself to the right King.
